Helping kids develop fundamental movement skills through fun, supportive before and after school sports coaching

Our popular after school multi-sport programmes run once a week and are designed to develop fundamental movement skills while building confidence, coordination, and a lifelong enjoyment of sport. Delivered in a fun, structured, and supportive environment, these sessions encourage active participation and help children develop a positive attitude towards physical activity.

For children with strong sporting ability or interest, our before and after school sports academy programmes provide additional opportunities to further develop and refine their skills through higher-level coaching and structured training.

Across all programmes, children are introduced to key sporting values and life skills, including teamwork, goal setting, resilience, and healthy lifestyle habits such as nutrition and wellbeing.

Our youth sports programmes support children’s development both on and off the field, helping them build the confidence, skills, and experience needed to progress into local sports clubs, school teams, and ongoing sport participation.

Our in-school sports and physical education programmes are designed to bring curriculum-based sport to life across New Zealand schools. We deliver engaging, structured and inclusive physical activity sessions that inspire students, support teachers, and promote lifelong participation in sport.

Aligned with the New Zealand school curriculum, our programmes provide high-quality sport and movement experiences that are active, fun, and developmentally appropriate for all age groups.

Our programmes include:

  • Tailored in-school sports sessions designed for different age groups and ability levels
  • Flexible delivery options, including one-off sports sessions or multi-week physical education programmes
  • Experienced sports coaches delivering engaging, skill-based instruction in schools
  • Teacher support and professional development to build confidence in delivering PE programmes
  • A “learn by doing” approach where students develop fundamental movement skills through play and active participation
  • Opportunities for teachers to be upskilled so they can confidently continue delivering the programme independently

We focus on creating positive, high-energy learning environments where children build confidence, develop physical literacy, and enjoy being active. Our goal is to make sport and physical activity something every child feels included in and excited to take part in.

Let your children experience the excitement of Kī o Rahi while learning te reo Māori and tikanga through fun, hands-on play beyond the classroom.

Kelly Sports are excited to offer you our Kī o Rahi programme. Actively learn Pūrākau o Kī o Rahi by playing the tākaro and connecting to whakapapa a rohe.

Kī o Rahi is a traditional Māori game based on a Pūrākau or legend of Rahitutakahina and the rescue of his wife Tiarakurapakewai. The legend predates European arrival in New Zealand (pre-1870s) and the game itself has Māori tikanga, the Māori culture. For Kelly Sports, we love bringing it into schools.

The Kī o Rahi programme is available at schools as a six-week programme or a sports day. Want Kī o Rahi at your school? Get in touch with your school or your local Kelly Sports contact.

Our preschool sports programme is specially designed for preschool-aged children in early childhood education (ECE) centres across New Zealand. Delivered by experienced Kelly Sports coaches, we visit your centre for 1–2 hours each week to introduce fundamental movement skills and early sporting experiences in a fun, engaging, and age-appropriate way.

These active sessions help build confidence, coordination, and a lifelong love of physical activity from an early age, supporting children’s physical, social, and emotional development.

Our programme can also support centres working towards the Healthy Heart Award, with structured physical activity sessions that align with award requirements.

The programme is aligned with Te Whāriki: He Whāriki Mātauranga mō ngā Mokopuna o Aotearoa, supporting Mana Atua through holistic, active learning experiences.

Sporty Shorties focuses on developing key early movement skills, including:

  • Locomotor skills (running, jumping, hopping)
  • Stability skills (balance, coordination, body control)
  • Manipulative skills (throwing, catching, kicking)

Fun, energetic, and highly engaging, Sporty Shorties is a natural extension of quality early childhood education in centres across Aotearoa, helping children learn through movement, play, and positive sporting experiences.
