In-School Programmes
We also run Kelly Sport in-school programmes, click on the links below to check out what we have to offer:
- Fundamental Skills (click on link to download brochure)
- Keep Fit Programmes (click on link to download brochure)
- Mini-Olympics (click on link to download brochure)
- Sports Days (click on link to download brochure)
The in-school currciclum programmes Kelly Sports run have been hugely successful. The Fundamental Skills programme teaches children the basics of kicking, throwing, catching, striking, running and jumping in a fun and structured environment. Teacher and student self-assessment sheets are available for this programme. These can be included in children’s work or report folders.
The Keep Fit programme is fantastic fun. The whole school aims to improve their fitness over a term through fitness testing and a variety of relay type activities. Children are assessed at the beginning, the middle and the end of the term by Kelly Sports Coaches. We then provide the teachers with fun relay activities to help improve their fitness throughout the term. This is great programme for children aged from Year 3 or 4 through to Year 8 with the whole school encouraging each other to improve their results by the end of the term.
If you’re thinking about holding an end of term or end of year sports day at your school, then contact us as we have the experience, the coaches and the equipment to make this an awesome day for both students and teachers. These sports days can be for your whole school, class or syndicate. We can provide all the coaches, or organise the day so your teachers are involved as well. Let us know if you’d like further info or click on the Mini-Olympics or Sports Days brochures above.
For further information on any of the above please contact Steve Potter at any time on steve@kellysports.co.nz or 021 044 6283
Steve Potter, Manager
Christchurch East Coast Zone
“Having been involved in sport since the age of 7, Kelly Sports East Coast Christchurch’s new manager Steve Potter has certainly gained a lot of experience in the last 23 years, the last 14 of which has seen him involved in coaching both in his native England and more recently, since his 2008 immigration, in New Zealand.
Back in 1994, Steve was part of his area representative Football side who were selected to represent England School Boys in a mini World Cup in the USA (which followed the main Football World Cup that year). His side went on to be unbeaten during the tournament as they took the mini World Cup back to England. At the same time Steve was very heavily involved in the UK Athletics scene, and during a break from Football to concentrate on his running, went on to earn plenty of successes at area level. This culminated in being ranked 16th at the National U23 Athletics Championships over 400m hurdles at the age of 21.
From the age of 16 he started to get involved with coaching Athletics at local Holiday Programmes and after completing his Bsc Hons D
egree in Sport and Geography, went on to become an Athletics Development Officer in England, as well as being involved in tutoring officials, Sportshall Athletics and developing athletics on a National Level. Here he started to develop his skills in organising activities, Sporting Festivals and Holiday Programmes.
Upon emigrating to Christchurch in 2008 Steve took up employment with Autism New Zealand as a Programme Co-ordinator for the Canterbury Region, as well as using his spare time to coach on Kelly Sports for previous franchise manager Miles Pask. He is also heavily involved with Coastal Spirit Football Club, having been player/coach of the Sunday 1st eleven (who last season went unbeaten on the way to league and cup double success, coach of the Women’s Division 2 side, and coach of he 15th Grade B team who were promoted mid-season last year from Division 3 and just missed out on the Division 2 title at the end of the season by goal difference.
Steve, and his partner, Chrissie Fletcher (who is heavily involved in the admin side of the venture following her loss of job in the February earthquake) have recently taken on the East Coast Christchurch Franchise from Miles and are both looking to give plenty more youngsters in Christchurch a positive and fun experience and opportunities in the foreseeable future.”
